Fromm, Herbert
Herbert Fromm (1905-1993) was one of the most prolific composers for the Reform Synagogue. He was born in Germany and attended the State Academy of Music in Munich where he studied composition, conducting, piano and organ. He was the recipient of the Ernest Bloch Award in 1945 for his cantata The Song of Miriam, and in 1967 was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters from Lesley College in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Mr. Fromm's compositions include choral works, song cycles, chamber music, cantatas, organ works and piano music. Much of his music is published and many of his works are available on recordings. He wrote three books: The Key of See-Travel Journals, Seven Pockets and On Jewish Music: A Composer's View.
