Portnoy, Marshall
Marshall Portnoy serves as the Cantor of Main Line Reform Temple in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania. Portnoy is an immediate past Vice-President of the American Conference of Cantors. A graduate of Yale, Cantor Portnoy was invested both by the Jewish Theological Seminary and the Hebrew Union College. His two-volume work entitled The Art of Cantillation (co-authored with Cantor Josee Wolff) has brought the skill and the joy of reading Torah and Haftarah to tens of thousands throughout the world, and regularly remains among the most popular volumes of the URJ Press. Cantor Portnoy has several works published by Transcontinental Music Publications and they are widely performed. He is the recipient of frequent music commissions. Songs of Renewal, a CD, was released in 2006. In the spring of 2007, Cantor Portnoy was feted by his congregation and community for having completed “double-chai,” thirty-six years in the cantorate.
