Mis Canciones Para Los Judeos de Cuba: My Songs for the Jews of Cuba is a delightful collection of 18 Ladino, Yiddish, Cantorial, and Israeli songs. A representation of Cantor Lisa Levine's concerts in Havana beginning in 1996, the CD represents the melting pot of musical heritage in Cuba and the diverse Jewish community from all over the world that has thrived there since the Revolution in 1959. The style is mainly folk, featuring guitar and percussion with flute, violin, and piano. Of special note are the Yiddish folk songs, which when sung in Havana brought forth a great deal of emotion among those in attendance. The Jewish Community of Havana is made up of many families who settled there from Poland escaping from the Nazi Holocaust; for them, these melancholy songs are reminiscent of the old country. All proceeds from the CD benefit the B'nai B'rith Cuban Jewish Relief Fund.
