SHALOM ISRAEL is a delightful collection of songs designed to be a companion to the book My Cousin Tamar Lives in Israel by Michelle Shapiro Abraham (URJ Press, 2007). The book joins a young boy and his cousin as they celebrate Jewish holidays and learn about Jewish life in Israel and North America. My Cousin Tamar Lives in Israel is an age-appropriate introduction to the similarities and the differences between two Jewish cultures.
The twenty songs on this CD bring to life many of the Jewish holiday customs that Tamar and her cousin practice, from hearing the shofar on Yom Kippur to eating delicious latkes and soufganiot at Chanukah time. These charming songs will help young children understand that Israel, the Jewish homeland, holds a special place in the hearts of Jews all over the world.
Many of the Jewish community's most beloved performers contributed tracks to this wonderful collection, including Peter and Ellen Allard, Craig Taubman, Ditza Zakay, Carol Boyd Leon, Eric Komar, Rabbi Joe Black, Judy Caplan Ginsburgh, Shira Kline, Cindy Paley, Kol B'Seder, Steve Brodsky, and Rick Recht.

For most American Jews, Israel is only seen through the lens of the
political debate, the impressions of the news report, or the windows of a
tour bus. Begun as a weekly online essay in response to the Second
Intifada in 2000, Galilee Diary goes beyond the headlines to provide an
insider’s view of the rich and complex reality that is Israel. First
time readers and longtime fans of the series will enjoy this
multidimensional look at Israel, which includes revised and updated

CHAI Israel Strand Curriculum Core
The teaching of Israel has become a high priority for our congregational school system in recent years. There is a documented decline in commitment to Israel among young Jews. The Reform Movement is confronting this challenge in a number of ways. The CHAI Israel Strand Curriculum is a tool to be employed in our classroom to nurture our students' connection to Israel: the land, the people, and the culture. This strand is composed of nineteen lessons, two or three lessons for each CHAI level 1-7, and can be used on its own or complement the rest of your CHAI curriculum. Each of the seven levels focuses on one aspect of Israel and our connection to it as North American progressive Jews. As with each CHAI Curriculum Core, the Israel Strand Curriculum Core includes all the necessary teaching material for each lesson. The full-color workbooks are filled with photographs, maps, and student activities.
